The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine plays a major role in pre-clinical medical education. Our training programs include:
Graduate studies: The department offers a doctoral curriculum with a concentration in experimental pathology. This program emphasizes laboratory investigations to better understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease.
Residency training in pathology: Our medical residency program is fully accredited and provides comprehensive training in anatomic and clinical pathology. Our department has trained numerous fellow in subspecialties such as neuropathology, cytopathology and hematopathology.
Phlebotomy training program: As the only University-based phlebotomy training program in Orange County, our training program has recently been re-accredited to provide continued high quality training for students seeking a career in phlebotomy or related healthcare professions.
Medical Technology program: Operated by the department since 1958, the program provides a learning environment in which students can acquire the academic knowledge, technical skills, professional behaviors and critical thinking experiences necessary to become proficient medical technologists.
